Role of a
Coach
The role of an outrigger coach is to plan safe,
effective training programs
for their club.
A coach's 'Duty of Care' responsibilities must
remain central to their
everyday coaching strategies:
- Sessions should be planned and documented.
- Back up plans should be readily available.
- Paddler concerns should always be followed up.
- Under no circumstances should paddlers, other
water users or the equipment be endangered.
Minimum Coaching Qualifications
The following are the minimum qualifications
required for an outrigger
coach. If your club's coach does not have these qualifications, the
insurance
for your club members may be affected. If you have any questions about
the courses, please contact the NSW Zone Coaching Coordinator (refer to
contact details under "Committee").
- Level 1 Coaching Principles
Course
January 14th & 15th 2006: NSW Level 1 Coaching Course, Cronulla.

- First Aid Course
Coaches must have a knowledge of basic emergency procedures, especially
CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation). Coaches should also have an
emergency
plan to ensure medical assistance is available.
There are a range of courses available. Recognised courses include
those offered by the Red Cross and St John's Ambulance. Please contact
the organisations directly for course information.

Additional Qualifications
- AOCRA Level 1 Coaching Course
This course is run through AOCRA Inc. Course dates will be available
shortly and invitations sent to all clubs.
